12" Baby Doll Dress and Bloomers- Free Pattern!

Vera's baby doll was in need of a new outfit, so I made her a dress and set of bloomers. When Vera woke up from her nap, I proudly showed her baby doll's new attire to her. "Vera, look what Mommy made for your baby!" to which she replied "Noooo!"and immediately removed the new dress and tried to put the old worn-out outfit back on. That girl does not like change. Fortunately, she warmed up to the new clothes after a few days and now loves dressing and undressing her doll.

This pattern was made to fit a 12" Waterbabies Doll but will fit most 12" dolls with a few minor modifications. I won't be providing a step-by-step tutorial with this pattern, but have included a few helpful tips. To get the pattern, simply right-click on the images below and save. Print at full scale.

    1. Hi,
The basics of garment construction apply to this pattern, just at a smaller scale. I just provided tips and a scaled down pattern, for those not wanting to draft their own, but the same principals apply as would for child or adult size clothing. Hope that helps!

  3. Simple instructions for us Grandmas who are not dressmakers but would love to make some little outfits for granddaughter's dolls would be much appreciated. I am sort of trying to make it like a puzzle but harder to undo when you make a mistake.....

  5. Hi,
Thank you for this pattern. I have a quick question - is there supposed to be a "skirt" pattern that is attached to the bodice? I am new to this so I may be completely wrong. Please advise. Ellen

    1. Hi Bettyellen, please see the second page of the pattern. You will need to cut a 4" x 20" piece of fabric for the skirt portion of the dress.

    1. Hi Mary,
Yes, the bodice of this dress is lined. You could make the bodice unlined, but then you would have to finish the edges of the arm and neck holes; I prefer to hide the unfinished edges inside the lining. I find this to be easier/quicker. I hope that helps!

  12. I just can't figure out how to attach the skirt to the bodice and where the elastic goes. Sorry. I have sewed a lot before but would love a little more direction.

People, if you want a pattern with instructions, go to Etsy and buy a pattern. This is FREE. If you do not understand how to sew, get instruction. you can go to your public library where they have books on GARMENT sewing.
Sarah, thank you for the FREE pattern. If someone does not understand how to make this dress, obviously they need further instruction and should seek advice elsewhere, perhaps BUY a pattern.
Again. Thank you Sarah, I am looking at ideas to make grand girls' bitty baby some clothes too. I am an experienced sewist. Your instructions are fine, actually they are excellent
